Charlotte Christian tops Sweet 16 baseball poll after win over Metrolina Christian

Charlotte Christian’s impressive 12-2 win over Metrolina Christian vaulted the Knights to the top spot in The Observer’s Sweet 16 poll this week.

The Knights (13-5) jumped from No. 4 to No. 1 after the win over Metrolina (19-2). Charlotte Christian banged out 15 hits, led by sophomore Banks Stephens, who was 3-for-4, while pitchers Jack Beard and Russ Berger contained a Metrolina team that had scored 237 runs its first 20 games.

The rankings are compiled by longtime NC baseball expert Tripp Roakes and include saNctioned high school teams from Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell and Union counties.
