Charlotte Christian maintains grip on The Charlotte Observer baseball Sweet 16 poll

In the final regular-season Observer Sweet 16 poll of the baseball season, Charlotte Christian holds onto the top spot in the regional rankings.

The Knights (23-5) have won eight straight games and finishes the season with a doubleheader with Charlotte Latin this week (home at 7 p.m. Tuesday; at Latin at 7 p.m. Friday).

No new teams join the poll this week.

The Sweet 16 is compiled by longtime N.C. baseball expert Tripp Roakes and includes sanctioned teams from Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union counties.

A final poll will appear at the end of the season and the champion will receive a large banner.
