Jaxon Dollar, the top NC prep football recruit, is heading to Georgia
East Lincoln’s Jaxon Dollar, the No. 1 high school football recruit in North Carolina, knows where he’s going to college.
Dollar, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound rising senior tight end, announced that he would attend Georgia during a special ceremony Thursday that was streamed by a national recruiting outlet.
“Everybody at Georgia made it feel like home,” Dollar said.
Dollar’s finalists were Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame and Texas.
“It feels great having everybody behind me here,” Dollar said, “coaches, family, friends. It’s a great feeling.”
Last season, Dollar was among the finalists for N.C. Mr. Football, an award annually given to the state’s top player. Dollar caught 54 passes for 1,190 yards and 20 touchdowns. Only one junior in the nation had more receiving yards than that.
On defense, he had 38 tackles and 13 tackles for a loss, plus five sacks.
“They’re going to get the best out of me,” Dollar said of heading to Georgia. “As a person and a human, they’re going to get a nice and loving guy.”
247 Sports ranks Dollar as the No. 32 overall recruit nationally, and the No. 2 recruit at his position in the country.
“He’s got great size,” said Providence High coach Weslee Ward, whose team played East Lincoln last season. “But the thing that stuck out was his athleticism for that size. You can just tell he’s just a blessed and God-given talented kid. And he can punt, too. I’m walking down the sideline in pregame and the ball just booms off his leg. I said, ‘So you can’t punt, too?’ He just started laughing.”
Dollar was also one of North Carolina’s top basketball players last season.
He led East Lincoln to a 22-5 record. He averaged 21 points, 10.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists, leading his team in every category.
