Jeff McInnis of Charlotte -- the guy who a state title at West Charlotte and was all-ACC at North Carolina and played more than a decade in the NBA -- has had quite a season, post-retirement.
McInnis was named Under Armour 17U national coach of the year. He was also named IndiHoops national coach of the year, mainly for taking his team to the Under Armour national championship. McInnis' Team Charlotte club entered the event as a major underdog. His roster, in the elite event, including no player taller than 6-6, and two of his starters had just finished their sophomore and freshman years of high school respectively.
Friday night, McInnis coached in the Under Armour Elite 24, an all-star game that brings together two dozen of the nation's top players. The game, which tipped off at 7, was shown nationally on ESPNU.
