Observer’s high school football players of the week
Bryan Digsby, Berry: Converted from tight end to quarterback last Monday when regular starter Jeremy Barber was injured. Playing with a broken bone in his hand, Digsby completed 17-for-38 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-31 win over East Mecklenburg. He completed the game-winning pass with 23 seconds left.
Kingsley Ifedi, Vance: Playing in his first game as a varsity starter, Ifedi, a junior quarterback, completed 23-of-33 passes for 440 yards and six touchdowns in a 54-12 win against West Mecklenburg.
Garrett Groulx, Davidson Day: Groulx had 17 tackles, 10 quarterback hurries and 1.5 sacks in a 48-14 win against Gastonia’s Ashbrook High Friday.
Braxton Knotts, Monroe: Scored three touchdowns – via kick return, rush and reception – in Monroe’s 49-25 win against Sun Valley. Knotts had 264 all-purpose yards.
Nakendrick Clark, Statesville: Ran 14 times for 236 yards and four touchdowns in a 47-23 win against Hickory Friday. Clark averaged 17 yards per carry.
