Davidson Day coach Chad Grier said he was surprised by his team’s performance in Friday’s 48-14 win over Ashbrook Friday night in Gastonia.

Grier wasn’t surprised the Patriots won. Davidson Day is now 9-0 all-time against public school teams. But Grier was surprised by how his team won.

Davidson Day has a lot of new faces this year, and Grier was wondering how they would perform at a tradition-rich N.C. 3A public school. The Patriots, who move into the Observer’s Sweet 16 poll this week, were dominant.

New QB Sam Hartman was 13-for-19 for 222 yards and three touchdowns. New RB Cade Carney ran 14 times for 156 yrds and a score. Receiver Khalil Moore caught five passes for 100 yards and a score. On defense, Chase Monroe had 21 tackles; Ryan Titus had 20. Carney and Price each had an interception.

Davidson Day is the only new team to move into the poll this week. The Patriots are in at No. 16.
