Hough 23, Lake Norman 7

After a 40-minute weather delay, it rained penalty flags in the first half of Friday’s non-conference game between Hough and host Lake Norman. It also took a while for lighting to strike – until Hough reeled off 16 consecutive points in less than five minutes toward the end of the half on the way to a 23-7 win

Hough quarterback Jackson Gibbs completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Marquill Osborne with 6:40 left to opening the scoring. After hitting the extra point, Huskies kicker Zach Stearns lofted a high onside kick that was recovered by Hough’s Adam Smith at Lake Norman’s 33 yard line, leading to Stearns’ 46-yard field goal.

Hough forced a punt on Lake Norman’s ensuing possession, which Osborne returned 82 yards for an apparent touchdown. But two Huskies penalties on the return brought the ball back to the Hough 3, where sophomore running back Jarrett Nagy took the first-down hand-off 97 yards for a touchdown.

Nagy scored again on a 7-yard run with 10:11 left in the fourth quarter. Lake Norman got its only score on a 33-yard pass from Cole Ladowski to Luke Miller with just 1:15 left in the game.

Records: Hough is 3-0. Lake Norman is 2-1.

Worth noting: Nagy’s 97-yard touchdown run was the longest run in Hough’s five-year history. He finished the game with 219 yards on 10 carries. Hough prevailed despite collecting 13 penalties for 135 yards, all but 5 yards of them by the offense,

What’s next: Hough is at Audrey Kell. Lake Norman travels to Salisbury.
