Friday night’s key high school football matchups
Mecklenburg contests
No. 6 Hough (4-0) at No. 2 Butler (3-1), 7 p.m.
Hough rallied to beat Ardrey Kell and stay unbeaten last week. The Huskies are set to meet Butler for the first time. The Bulldogs, hunting a third straight win, are coming off a 32-13 victory at 4A power Richmond Senior last week and appear to be hitting their stride.
McDonogh, Md. (2-0) at No. 1 Mallard Creek (3-1), 7 p.m.
In its first four games, Mallard Creek faced two state championship contenders. Friday, it’ll face a third. Nationally ranked McDonogh is ranked No. 4 among all Maryland teams. Mallard Creek won 70-0 against Garinger last week.
Sun Valley (2-2) at Myers Park (2-2), 7 pm.
Sun Valley games have been high-scoring. The Spartans average nearly 40 points and allow nearly 40 points. Myers Park will honor its 1965 unbeaten team at halftime. Myers Park averages 18 points per game and allows 14. It’s offense vs. defense Friday night.
Regional contests
No. 7 Rock Hill Northwestern (3-1) at No. 4 Rock Hill South Pointe (4-0), 7:30 p.m.
Rock Hill’s two best teams are also two of the best in South Carolina. Northwestern, an annual 4A state title contender, is ranked No. 4 among all South Carolina teams by MaxPreps. South Pointe, the reigning 3A state champion, is No. 5.
