Thursday’s roundup: South Iredell, North Lincoln pick up football wins

South Iredell ran up 330 yards on offense Thursday in a 54-27 win over Alexander Central. The game was moved up in anticipation of heavy rain on Friday.

Alexander Central took a 7-6 lead in the first quarter on Devin Weiss’ 1-yard run, and later closed to 20-13 on Bryson Godfrey’s 97-yard kick return late in the first quarter. But after that, South Iredell ran off 34 straight points.

South Iredell had lots of offensive heroes like receiver Lundon White, who caught four passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Tyree Hallman who ran seven times for 83 yards and two scores. South’s Cody Gilliland had 11 tackles and Jared Bradley had 10.

North Lincoln 70, North Iredell 49: North Lincoln rushed for 506 yards and eight touchdowns in the win. North Lincoln, which converted seven of eight 2-point PAT attempts, won its conference opener for the first time since 2007 when it beat East Lincoln. North Iredell rushed for 442 yards and seven touchdowns in the game, and the teams only passed four times.

Charlotte Christian soccer 1, Covenant Day 0: Sam Korolos scored the lone goal for the Knights off an assist from Michael Crosby

Charlotte Country Day volleyball 3, Charlotte Latin 0: Zoe Weatherington had 16 kills, Raleigh Clark had 16 kills and Braden Nash had 17 digs for Country Day, which won 25-22, 27-25 and 25-19. Kenna LaPiana led the Bucs with 32 assists.

Charlotte Country Day field hockey 6, Greensboro Day 0: The Bucs got goals from Lawson Park, Caroline Jones, Ali Gakenheimer, Kathryn Holland, Anna Rhyne and Laura Dooley. Riley Harrison and Bennett Pittroff combined for the shutout.

Fort Mill Nation Ford volleyball 3, Gaffney 0: Madison Gardner had 20 digs, Clarrisa Bates had 27 assists and Jessica Kemp had 10 kills and six blocks for Nation Ford. Nation Ford, which won 25-21, 25-21 and 25-16 improved its record to 23-6-2.

Marquise Dukes North Iredell football: 19 carries, 215 yards, three touchdowns in a 70-49 loss to North Lincoln.

Lauren Gedney, Lake Norman Charter volleyball: 11 kills and a block in a 3-0 loss to North Gaston.

BJ Hahn, Providence Day soccer: two goals in a 4-1 win over Cannon School. Sam Coover and Matty Khal also scored for Providence Day (4-7, 2-2 CISAA). Cannon fell to 4-6-1, 1-2.

Jimmy Loftin, Christ The King soccer: Earned his sixth shutout of the season in goal in his team’s 4-0 win over United Faith. Alec Karam had three goals.

Brady Pope, South Iredell football: was 8-for-8 for 159 yards passing and three touchdowns in a 54-27 win over Alexander Central Thursday.

J-mo Thompson, North Lincoln: 15 carries for 227 yards and three touchdowns in a 70-49 win over North Iredell.
