Hough to visit Mallard Creek in game that could decide league title

Mecklenburg contests

No. 7 Hough (5-1, 1-0 MECKA) at No. 1 Mallard Creek (6-1, 2-0), 7

Hough was leading 30-0 last season before Mallard Creek rallied, scoring 23 unanswered points in the final seven minutes to win 37-30. The winner Friday will be in great position to capture a league title.

Myers Park (4-2, 1-0 Southwestern 4A) at No. 9 Butler (5-2, 0-1), 7

Butler is still expected to be without several key starters -- and school officials aren’t saying why -- after last week’s shocking 10-7 loss to East Mecklenburg. Myers Park and Independence are unbeaten in the Southwestern 4A.

North Mecklenburg (5-2, 1-1 MECKA) at Hopewell (1-6, 0-2), 7

North Meck hasn’t had a winning season since 2006. The Vikings are two wins away from that goal. North Meck hasn’t won six games in a season since 2009. A win Friday against rival Hopewell will take care of that bit of history.

Regional contests

Lake Norman (5-1, 2-0 North Piedmont 3A/4A) at South Iredell (5-1, 2-0), 7:30

The teams are tied with Mooresville for first place in the conference. South Iredell has won five straight since a 41-29 opening week loss to Pfafftown Reagan. Lake Norman has allowed only 20 points in a three-game win streak.
