Lake Norman’s Kathryn Carson wins N.C. 4A West girls golf regional

Lake Norman’s Kathryn Carson fired a three-under 69 at the Brushy Mountain Golf Course in Taylorsville to win the N.C. 4A Western Regional girls golf championship.

Mooresville’s Samantha Vodry (73) was second followed by Keri Kenkel of Charlotte Catholic (75).

Winston-Salem Reagan won the team championship with a total of 242 strokes, 15 better than Ardrey Kell. Hough finished third.

3A Central: Northern Guilford’s Kendall Dobbins won the 3A Central regional at Greensboro National. Rockingham (245) won the team championship. Among Observer-area teams, Cox Mill finished fifth (295). Individually, Cox Mill’s Jamie Cassell (80) was seventh.

Monday’s Roundup

Charlotte Latin soccer 1, Cannon 0: Ian Bircak had the goal and Bennett Jones the shutout for Latin (10-4-4, 5-3-2 CISAA). Cannon fell to 5-12-1, 2-8.

South Meck soccer 6, Charlotte Catholic 3: South Meck remained unbeaten with the win against their Park Road rivals. Reed Hunnicut had two goals and an assist for South (15-0-1, 11-0 SoMeck 8).

Monday’s Top Performers

Moon Cheong, Charlotte Latin golf: Shot a 38 at Raintree Country Club over 9 holes to win medalist honors in a two-team match with Gaston Christian. Latin won 123-150.

Marco Garcia, South Meck soccer: two goals, two assists in a 6-3 win over Charlotte Catholic.

Sarah Novroski, Lake Norman Charter volleyball: 36 assists in a 3-0 upset over previous Big South conference unbeaten North Gaston. Lauren Gedney had 12 kills for Lake Norman Charter (15-5, 12-2).
