North Meck is in the Sweet 16 for the first time this season.

The Vikings (7-2) have won three in a row, including Friday’s 20-14 upset of Vance, and seven of their past eight games.

Coach Brad Baker’s team has secured its first winning season since 2006 and has the most wins since that season. North Meck, in fact, can win the state’s toughest conference, the MECKA 4A, by beating Hough and Mallard Creek in the next two weeks.

▪ Elsewhere, Vance dropped out of the poll after suffering its second straight loss and its third in four weeks. … Charlotte Catholic remained No. 1 and private school Davidson Day moved into the top 10.
