NCHSAA tennis: Community School’s Marisa Deininger, Lake Norman Charter’s Olivia and Hannah Archer win state titles

Community School’s Marisa Deininger was runner-up in the state individual tennis championships two years ago in doubles. Saturday, she won a 1A state title all by herself.

Deininger beat Durham Voyager’s Morgan Blount 6-1, 6-0 in a decisive championship math at the Cary Tennis Center.

In doubles, Morgan Auger and Anna Petrangeli of Kernersville Bishop McGuinness beat Elkin’s Miracle Walters and Morgan Randleman 6-4, 7-5 for the championship.

▪ In 2A, Maiden’s Zoe Huffman beat Lake Norman Charter’s Lauren Bush 6-0, 6-4. Lake Norman Charter’s doubles team, the sister duo of Olivia and Hannah Archer won their second straight state title. The Archers beat Salisbury’s Kayla Honeycutt and Kathryn Rusher 6-0, 6-0.

▪ Asheville’s Adrienne Haynes won her second straight 3A title, beating Cox Mill’s Sarah Jiang 6-2, 6-4. Jiang is a three-time state finalist. In doubles, Cameron Union Pines’ Mary Beth Jackson and Hailee Haymore beat Fayetteville Terry Sanford’s Huda McGraw and Sophia McGraw 7-5, 7-5.

▪ In 4A, Cary Panther Creek’s Sammi Smith and Jordan Strickland won their fourth straight title, beating Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons’ Lizzie Galush and Jenna Knors 6-3, 6-2. In singles, Raleigh Wakefield’s Suzanne Boyden won her third straight title, beating Panther Creek’s Amanda Cyr 6-3, 6-0. Cyr beat Myers Park’s Maddie Weber 6-2, 6-1 in her semifinal. Boyden, the champion, beat Lake Norman’s Lauren Gish 6-2, 6-1 in her semi.
