Observer’s Sweet 16 football poll 11.02.15
Welcome back to the Sweet 16, Independence.
After starting the year at No. 3 in the preseason poll, Independence lost its first game 58-6 to Mallard Creek and 42-13 to Scotland County. Since then, first-year coach Justin Hardin has begun to get his team rolling. The Patriots are 7-1 since the slow start and have won five in a row. Independence rejoins the poll this week at No. 16.
The Patriots’ turnaround has put them in position to win a second straight Southwestern 4A conference championship. To do it, Independence will have to beat No. 6 Butler at home Friday as Mecklenburg County’s No. 1 high school football rivalry resumes -- with high stakes.
