Boys’ No. 8 West Charlotte Lions

Coach: Baronton Terry

2014-15 notes: 24-4 a year ago, the Lions are young this season after losing four players to college (Isaiah Blackmon to St. Francis; Nakia Rivers to Central Florida Community College; Malik Massey to UNC Greensboro in 2016-17; Simeon Carter to Iowa State). Terry will rely on players who played sparse varsity minutes last season, and guys like Isiah Johnson, a 6-foot-6 junior who played junior varsity.

Returning starters: 0

Key returnees/newcomers: Kobie Williams (6-5, Sr., W); Jalen Knight (5-11, Jr., PG); Isiah Johnson (6-6, Jr., C); Melvin Huntley (6-6, Jr., C)

Why them? The Lions are a perennial state power. Terry led them to a state title in 2011 and a runner-up finish in 2012. He has taken the Lions to the N.C. 4A Western Regionals five of the past six seasons.
