Sweet 16 girls’ basketball countdown: No. 5 Davidson Day
Girls No. 5 Davidson Day Patriots
Coach: Jeff LaFave (1st year as Davidson Day head coach)
2014-15 Notes: Finished 24-5, 10-0 to win the Piedmont Athletic Conference of Independent Schools title; Advanced to the NCISAA 2A semifinals, before losing to Northside Christian 56-51.
Returning Starters: Maya Caldwell (6-0, G-F, Jr.); Parker Tompkins (6-1, C-F, Jr.); Courtney Meadows (5-4, PG, So.); Josie Wiles (6-2, C, Fr.); Alexis Bradford (5-4, G, Sr.)
Key Newcomers: Anika Riley (5-9, F, Jr.); Kate Roberts (5-5, G, Fr.); Ryann Sinclair (5-6, G, Fr.)
Why Them?: The Patriots were painfully close to make a second consecutive appearance in the NCISAA 2A championship game. With five starters back, led by all-state guard Caldwell (24 ppg, 10 rpg, major Division I recruit) and Tompkins and Meadows (West Virginia commit), Davidson Day should be state title contenders again.
