Hough, Myers Park, Providence, Community School advance in NCHSAA soccer

Four Mecklenburg County Schools moved to the fourth round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association soccer playoffs Wednesday night.

Seeded No. 15 in the N.C. 4A playoffs, Myers Park’s Mustangs continued a surprising run Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Pinecrest in the third round.

Brady Hamel scored the goal for the Mustangs. Myers Park beat No. 18 seed Porter Ridge 2-1 at home to start the playoffs, but has now upset No. 2 Skyland Roberson 3-0 and No. 7 Pinecrest in back-to-back games. Myers Park will play at Providence in the fourth round Saturday. Providence got a goal from Shane Swisher and beat Lake Norman 1-0 on the road. Gordon White got the shutout.

N.C. 4A power Hough improved to 19-2-3 with a 1-0 win over Ardrey Kell. Roman Uglehus scored off an assist from Anthony Condo. Liam Dolaher had the shutout for Hough, which will face the winner of Thursday night’s Charlotte Catholic-South Meck match in the fourth round Saturday. Hough is in the N.C. 4A quarterfinals for the third straight year and fourth time in school history under coach David Smith.

Nationally ranked South Meck will host Charlotte Catholic at home Thursday night at 7.

A Mecklenburg County team is now guaranteed to reach the state finals in 4A.

In 1A, Community School of Davidson breezed its third round match beating Lincoln Charter 3-0. Community School, the top seed in the western bracket, has outscored three playoff teams 21-1. The Spartans again used balanced scoring with three different players scoring: Ben McAfee, Nate Leach and Keegan Miller with Francisco Prado assisting on all 3 Spartan goals. Noah McLeod recorded 6 saves for the shutout.
