Boys and Girls Observer players of the week

Dezia Lawrence, Vance girls: Scored a school-record 39 points in her season and career debut. Lawrence, a freshman guard, led Vance to a 63-21 win over Providence.

Davion Mintz, North Mecklenburg: 27 points, 6 assists, 4 steals in 92-46 win over Community School of Davidson Thursday. In a 76-31 season-opening win over West Meck last week, Mintz had 17 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

A’Lea Gilbert, South Meck girls:

Cam Hamilton, Vance: 19 points, 10 steals, 5 assists in 54-52 win over Providence.

Qon Murphy, Hough: 24 points, 7 rebounds for 6-5 sophomore guard in 68-55 win over Lake Norman Friday. Murphy made 11-of-16 free throws. Murphy had 13 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists in a 78-58 win over Harding last Monday.

Rayshawn Neal, Garinger: 17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals in a 62-58 win over Hopewell last Tuesday. He made two free throws to give his team a 59-58 lead late. Neal had 29 in Friday’s 67-54 win over Harding, lifting his team to a rare 2-0 start.

Erica VanDusen, Covenant Day girls: 22 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals in 64-19 win over Queens Grant Friday.

Zaria Wright, Concord First Assembly girls: 32 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists in 82-17 win over Calvary Baptist. Wright shot 55 percent from the floor and 87 percent from the free-throw line.
