Michael Grigg, Christ The King: Made 14 free throws in the fourth quarter and led his team to a 63-61 upset of Davidson Day Monday. Grigg finished with 26 points. Tuesday, Grigg had 30 in a 93-82 loss to Carmel Christian.

Jasmine Sanders, Garinger: In a 67-59 loss to North Meck Monday, Sanders went for 36 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, five blocks. She averages 21 points per game.

Myers Park girls: Two-time N.C. 4A state champs are No. 25 in USA Today’s national rankings.

South Mecklenburg: Unranked Sabres boys, girls upset Butler. Butler’s boys are No. 3 in the Sweet 16; Butler’s girls are No. 13.

Hough: Huskies are 3-0 after Tuesday’s 59-40 win over Mooresville. Ryan Friday had 14.

Central Cabarrus: Kyran McClure, a Navy commit, had 25 points in a 78-44 win over Carson. Central Cabarrus is 3-0.

Tuesday’s Girls Roundup

No. 1 Providence Day 64, SouthLake Christian 8: Janelle Bailey had 20 points and Erin Whalen 19 as the Chargers (2-0) won easily. Izzy Gallant had a career-high eight assists. Providence Day led 25-0 after the first quarter. Emilie Smith had a career-high 9 points.

No. 4 Ardrey Kell 50, No. 9 Weddington 34: Deniyah Lutz had 14 points and Chase Muhammad added 11 for the Knights (2-1) who faced their second straight Observer top 10 team. Ardrey Kell lost to No. 2 Myers Park last week. Erin Addison had 15 for Weddington (3-1).

No. 7 Charlotte Christian 56, Queens Grant 12: Kerstie Phills had 12 points to lead the Knights (3-0). Christian led 36-0 at halftime.

Hough 59, Mooresville 26: Gabby Gianikos and Alex Denny combined for 20 points and Kaila Thompson had 15 for Hough (3-0). The Huskies shut out Mooresville in the first quarter.

Sun Valley 69, East Meck 37: Amanda Cherry’s 26 points helped spark an easy win. Sun Valley led 22-2 at the end of the first quarter. Serina McDuffie had 16 for East Meck, which scored 28 points in the second half.

Covenant Day 42, Metrolina Christian 35: Amanda Stone had 8 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for Covenant and Erica VanDusen had 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Covenant Day rallied for the win by outscoring Metrolina 18-7 in the fourth quarter.

Victory Christian 56, Charlotte Country Day 41: Adaroa Ezikeotisa (17 points, seven rebounds) and Lilian Izunda (14, 14 rebounds, four blocks) helped lead the Kings to the comfortable win. Charlotte Pedlow had 13 for Country Day.

Tuesday’s Top Girls Performers

Laila Barnes, West Charlotte: Freshman had 25 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and an assist in a 56-52 win over Harding.

Ali Fitch, South Mecklenburg: 13 points, eight rebounds in 39-35 upset of No. 13 Butler. Fitch hit four key free throws in the final minute. A’Lea Gilbert had 9 points and 13 rebounds for the Sabres.

Danielle Griffin, Ardrey Kell: 7 points, seven rebounds, seven blocks in 50-34 win over No. 9 Weddington

Joyous Wilson, Victory Christian: 20 points, 15 rebounds, four steals in 57-40 win over Country Day.

Zaria Wright, Jenesai Mohammad, Concord First Assembly: In a 60-38 win over Concord Cannon, Wright had 26 points, four assists, four steals; Mohammad had 20 points, four steals.

Tuesday’s Boys Roundup

No. 1 Providence Day 85, SouthLake Christian 66: The Chargers (2-2) led 42-38 at halftime but stretched the lead in the second half. Josh Howard (15 points, eight rebounds, three steals), Isaac Johnson (12 points, six rebounds, three assists) and Trey Wertz (10 points, three rebounds, 3 assists) were among five double-figure scorers for the Chargers. Madison Monroe had 17 for SouthLake (2-1).

South Mecklenburg 72, No. 3 Butler 69: Khayleb Connelly had 16 points and two free throws with 6 seconds left to seal the upset. Jalen Blakeney had 25 for South Meck, which trailed by double digits in the first half. Bryant Thomas had 11 points and eight blocks. Orlando Robinson had 20 for Butler.

No. 6 Berry 59, Vance 56: Berry got down 16-7 after the first quarter but rallied. Chandler Murray had 18 points and three assists for Berry, which also got 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals from 6-4 sophomore Jamarius Burton. Vance’s Cameron Hamilton had 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting.

No. 12 Cox Mill 65, East Rowan 36: Freshman Wendell Moore had 14 points, five rebounds and teammate Messiah Baptiste added 12 points and three assists for Cox Mill (2-0).

Davidson Day 64, Gaston Day 59: Down by 3 at the half, Davidson Day rallied behind Myles McGregor (22 points), Joe Hartman (15) and Gavin Rickard (12). Gaston Day sophomores Quan McCluney (28) and MJ Armstrong (22) combined for 50 of their team’s 59 points. Armstrong made six 3-point shots.

Cuthbertson 71, Union Academy 46: Cuthbertson improved to 4-0. Chris Grovanz (14), Ryan Mobley (13), AJ Spencer (12), Tyrik Dawson (11) and Steven Ruszala (11) led Cuthbertson. Dillon Harrison had 16 for Union Academy (1-3).

Carmel Christian 93, Christ The King 82: Sophomore point guard Raf Jenkins had 22 points and four assists and freshman Myles Pierre had 19 points and six rebounds for Carmel Christian in the win.

Concord First Assembly 68, Cannon 51: First Assembly (2-0) limited Cannon to 16 first-half points and won easily behind 15 points from Nico Payne, 13 from Julius Felder and 8 points and 10 rebounds from Michael Featherston. Cannon got 23 points from sophomore Jairus Hamilton.

Covenant Day 75, Metrolina Christian 67: A 22-11 third quarter advantage gave Covenant Day some space as it got 24 points from Chase Dixon and 14 from Percy Johnson in the win. Emeka Nwakwo (17), Kyle Kiser (16), Malcolm Wade (15) and Tyler Nelson (14) led Metrolina.

Forestview 62, Lake Norman 47: Forestview was down 5-4 after the first quarter, but outscored Lake Norman 45-29 in the second and third quarters to gain a comfortable margin. Ben Henderson (13 points) and Trell McCaskill (12) led Forestview (1-1). Austin Hughes had 12 for Lake Norman (0-2).

Tuesday’s Top Boys Performers

Gordon Cory, Charlotte Country Day: 20 points, four steals in a 66-49 win over Victory Christian.

Malik Gingles, Ashbrook: 26 points, eight rebounds, four steals in 73-67 win over Crest.

Charvis Jones, East Meck: 28 points in a 56-48 win over Sun Valley.

Joey Knox, Community School of Davidson: made 6-of-6 2-point shots and 4-of-8 3-point shots and a free throw in a 77-31 win over North Hills. Knox got his second straight 23-point game.

Ryan Schwieger, Weddington: 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists in a 59-44 win over Ardrey Kell (0-4). Weddington is 3-1.

JC Tharrington, Rob Peterson, Charlotte Christian: Tharrington, a freshman point guard, had a game-high 20 points and eight assists in 62-60 win over Queens Grant. Peterson, son of former UNC star Buzz Peterson, had 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Grant Williams, Devon Dotson, Providence Day: 20 points, 16 rebounds, two blocks for Williams in 85-66 win over SouthLake Christian. Dotson added 21 points, six rebounds, six assists.
