Lake Norman’s Carson, Mooresville’s Vodry share girls’ golfer of year honors
Lake Norman’s Kathryn Carson and Mooresville’s Samantha Vodry have battled their entire high school careers as rivals and as former teammates at Lake Norman.
This year, Carson and Vodry pushed each other again, with Vodry winning the North Piedmont conference title while Carson claimed the 4A West Regional championship.
Carson (4A state runner-up) and Vodry (12th at 4A state meet), who share the Charlotte Observer girls’ golfer of the year honors, also both finished among the top players in the state.
Vodry next will play golf at High Point University, while Carson is a major Division I recruit who still has a year of high school left.
Providence Day coach Linda Jochim is the Charlotte Observer girls’ golf coach of the year, as she led the Chargers to an NCISAA 3A title, outlasting rival Charlotte Latin on the third playoff hole to win.

First Team
Kathryn Carson, Lake Norman, Jr.: 4A West Regional champion also 4A state and NPC runner-up.
Samantha Vodry, Mooresville, Sr.: High Point commit won NPC title, was 4A West Regional runner-up, finished 12th at 4A state meet.
Roshnee Sharma, Providence Day, Sr.: Won NCISAA state, individual title by six shots, also third in CISAA conference championships.
Jodee Tindal, South Pointe (S.C.), Jr.: Mercer commit was co-medalist at AAA Upper State championship, AAA state runner-up.
Moon Cheong, Charlotte Latin, Jr.: CISAA conference championship, tied for NCISAA state runner-up.
Keri Kenkel, Charlotte Catholic, So.: SoMeck8 conference champion also finished seventh at 4A state meet, third at 4A West Regional.
Parker Melting, Independence, So.: The Patriots’ only girls’ golfer was Southwestern 4A player of the year (and champion) finishing seventh at the 4A West Regional and 12th at 4A state meet.
Emily Anderson, Porter Ridge, Jr.: SW4A runner-up, tied for 4th at 4A West Regional, 24th at 4A state meet.
Taylor Hinson, Gaston Christian, Sr.: All-state performer led her team to first state tournament ever, finished fourth individually at NCISAA state meet.
Ellie Porman, Stuart Cramer, Jr.: Big South conference champion helped her team to its first conference title in any sport, also 1A-2A West Regional champion, 1A-2A state runner-up.
Michelle Harn, Charlotte Catholic, Fr.: Catholic freshman tied for fourth at 4A West Regional, 11th at 4A state meet.
Muskan Uppal, Cannon School, Fr.: Cougars freshman also stepped up her game, finishing as CISAA conference runner-up and fifth at NCISAA state meet.
