Rechon “Leaky” Black, Concord: 6-7 sophomore, the state’s top recruit in the class of 2018, plans to announce his college decision after Friday’s home game with Hickory Ridge. Black, averaging 13 points, 9.6 rebounds and 7.9 assists, sports offers from Charlotte, Clemson, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, among others.

Providence Day Samaritan’s Feet: The school will collect shoes during Friday’s rivalry game with Charlotte Latin to benefit Samaritan’s, an international organization that tries to provide shoes for needy kids around the world. Last year, Providence Day collected 300 pair. The goal this year is 500.

Cougars 4 A Cure: Charlotte Catholic will hold its third “Cougars 4 A Cure” event during Friday’s home game with Providence. In the past two years, the school has raised more than $35,000 for bladder cancer research.

Wisconsin Cheering Ban: The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association has banned certain chants during games, including “air ball,” “scoreboard” and “we can’t hear.” Student section battles, to us, are one of the best parts about high school basketball.

Friday’s Key Games

No. 5 Ardrey Kell girls (11-4, 5-0 SoMeck 8) at No. 13 South Mecklenburg (10-4, 5-1), 6 p.m.: South Meck has won four straight and gets a crack at the conference favorites at home. The Knights have won 40 straight conference regular-season games and a 41st will give them a stranglehold on the league lead.

No. 9 Hough (11-5, 3-2 MECKA) at Vance (11-6, 3-2), 7:30 p.m.: Teams are tied for third behind West Charlotte (7-6, 4-2) and North Mecklenburg (14-2, 5-0). It’s likely the loser sees its conference titles hopes end Friday night.

Ashbrook at Lake Norman Charter doubleheader, 6 p.m.: The Ashbrook girls (15-0, 5-0 Big South) are ranked No. 6 in the Sweet 16 and off to one of the best starts in school history. Lake Norman Charter (7-7, 4-1) is tied for second with Stuart Cramer. The boys game is for first place, too. Ashbrook (7-8, 4-1 Big South) tries to end a three-game win streak for Lake Norman Charter (9-5, 5-0).

Mooresville (9-5, 4-1 North Piedmont) at Lake Norman (6-8, 4-1), 7:30 p.m.: Iredell County rivals are tied with Alexander Central and North Iredell for first place in the conference
