East Lincoln’s Sage Surratt: School-record 50 points in a 91-57 win over Maiden. Surratt, who leads all Observer-area scorers at 32.1 points per game, also had eight assists, six rebounds and three steals. He scored 34 points in the first half and shot 17-for-32 from the field for the game and 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

Mount Pleasant: Tigers (7-9, 1-1 Rocky River) upset Monroe 57-54, beating the Redhawks for the first time in more than 16 years. Heroes? Nick Sutton (15 points), Thomas Boshears (14), Jacob Irby (nine points, 10 rebounds, three taken charges) and Trey Barnhardt (six points, nine rebounds).

Charlotte Catholic: Freshman BJ Mack had 11 points in a 68-46 win over Providence. Catholic is off to a school-best 17-0 start.

Josh Howard, Providence Day: 6-6 all-state senior forward recently scored his 1,000th point. Howard is averaging 12.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists. During his career, Providence Day is 90-19 overall and 29-1 against CISAA competition with three league titles.

Friday’s Boys Roundup

No. 1 Providence Day 80, Charlotte Latin 57: The nationally ranked Chargers (19-3, 2-0 CISAA) shot 93 percent from the field in the first half and led 46-18 at halftime in front of a sold-out crowd. Seniors Grant Williams (20 points, six rebounds, five assists, five blocks), Isaac Johnson (19 points, 8-for-8 shooting), Josh Howard (20 points, eight rebounds) and sophomore Trey Wertz (14 points, five rebounds, five assists, 3-for-3 from 3-point range) led the Chargers. Parker Julian had 19 for Latin (9-8, 1-1).

No. 5 Concord Robinson 74, West Rowan 55: Lavar Batts Jr. had 20 points, six assists and four rebounds in an easy win. Robinson outscored West Rowan 31-14 in a decisive third quarter. Caleb Mauldin had 26 for West.

No. 7 Weddington 69, Anson County 47: Ryan Schiweger, a 6-6 junior point guard, had 24 points and Timmy Havens 15 to lead Weddington (12-4, 3-0 Southern Carolina). D’Angelo Tyson had 11 for Anson (5-10, 0-3).

No. 8 Berry 66, Olympic 57: Chandler Murray had 18 points, three rebounds and Jamarius Burton had 15 points, 10 rebounds, six assists for Berry, which outscored Olympic 25-6 in the third quarter. Jordan Chambers led the Trojans with 15.

No. 9 Hough 70, Vance 45: Sophomores Qon Murphy (13 points, five rebounds, three assists), Chase Praeger (six assists) and Cooper Crawford (12 points, four rebounds) helped spark an easy win. Hough outscored Vance 42-24 in the second half. Vance got 16 points, three assists from Cam Hamilton and 15 points and two steals from Marcus Neal.

No. 10 Fort Mill 54, Rock Hill 52: Fort Mill (14-2, 5-0) remained unbeaten in region play getting 13 points from Tanner Mitchell and 12 from AJ Foti. Fort Mill outscored Rock Hill 10-2 in the fourth quarter. Rock Hill got 11 points each from Andrew Barber and Tay Brevard.

No. 14 Forest Hills 69, Parkwood 56: Zaccheus Rorie had 18 points and Desmond Lindsey had 17 points and 12 rebounds in a comfortable win for the Yellow Jackets (13-2, 2-0 Rocky River). Matt Payne had 20 for Parkwood (3-12, 1-1).

Cannon 53, Charlotte Christian 50: Philip McKenzie had 15 points and 10 rebounds as Cannon held off a spirited upset bid from Charlotte Christian. Sophomore Jairus Hamilton had 14 points for Cannon. JC Tharrington (14 points) and Rob Peterson (12) led the Knights.

Carmel Christian 64, Hickory Christian 36: Roland Whitney had 14 points and six rebounds to spark Carmel Christian to an easy win. Carmel led 22-6 after the first quarter and 41-14 at halftime. Casey Broome had 15 for Hickory Christian.

Christ The King 83, United Faith 58: Mike Grigg (28 points), Brian Stanley (22) and Scott Harvey (15) all had big games for CTK, which outscored United Faith 45-31 in the second half. Andrew Norton had 18 for the Falcons.

Covenant Day 81, Charlotte Country Day 74: Covenant Day (11-4, 2-0) outscored Country Day (7-13, 0-2) 26-15 in the fourth quarter and 11-4 in overtime to win. Perry Johnson (22 points) and Christian Vandevelde (17) led Covenant.

East Mecklenburg 75, Porter Ridge 63: East Meck outscored Porter Ridge 22-6 in the second quarter to spark the win.

Garinger 62, Myers Park 61: Rayshawn Neal had 15 points, five rebounds and three assists as Garinger (8-7, 3-3 Southwestern 4A) edged Myers Park (7-8, 2-4). Deng Barac added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats, who also got 11 points, six assists and four steals from Maurice Abraham. Davrion Grier had 20 for Myers Park.

Hopewell 63, AL Brown 56: Mark Sherrill, son of the former J.C. Smith All-American of the same name, had 20 points to lead the Titans (9-7, 3-3 MECKA). Chris Lewis added 18. Jaylon Neal had 16 for Brown (0-6, 3-9).

Marvin Ridge 61, Sun Valley 55: Emeka Emezie had 15 points for Marvin Ridge, which rallied from a 26-22 halftime deficit. Elijah Evans led Sun Valley with 15.

Friday’s Boys Top Performers

Terron Dixon, Patrick Tape’, Queens Grant: Dixon had 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists in a 78-25 win over NE Carolina Prep. Tape’ had 12 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and three assists. Queens Grant will play Wake Christian Academy in the Bulldog Classic Championship Saturday at 2:30.

Jordan McKenzie, Concord Robinson: 23 points, seven assists, four steals in a 74-55 win over West Rowan.

Nenad Milenkovic, Concord First Assembly: 29 first half points in a 99-53 win over Tabernacle Christian. He finished with a game-high 34.

Davion Mintz, North Mecklenburg: Creighton signee had 28 points, seven assists in a 86-36 win over Mallard Creek.

Kody Shubert, Lincoln Charter: 23 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds, three steals in a 90-69 win over Mountain Island Charter.

Marcus Thomas, Independence: 28 points, nine rebounds, seven steals in a 69-43 win over Rocky River.

Friday’s Girls Roundup

No. 1 Providence Day 67, Charlotte Latin 25: Janelle Bailey had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Erin Whalen added 24 points in an easy win for the nationally ranked Chargers. Providence Day (16-1, 2-0 CISAA) won its 87 straight conference game. Claudia Dickey had 10 for Latin.

No. 3 Davidson Day 70, Greensboro Day 42: Parker Tompkins had 25 points and Maya Caldwell 18 for the Patriots. Davidson Day (16-2, 2-0 PACIS) outscored Greensboro Day 19-5 in the second quarter and busted the game open.

No. 5 Ardrey Kell 55, No. 13 South Meck 50: Journey Muhammad had 15 points and Deniyah Lutz added 12 for the Knights, who trailed 9-8 after the first quarter, but won the next two 31-23. Aja Stevens had 20 for South Meck.

No. 9 Weddington 70, Anson Senior 35: Remi Roberts had 20 points and eight rebounds, Elanna Peay had seven points and 14 rebounds and Erin Addison added seven points, 12 assists and five steals for Weddington.

No. 10 Hickory Ridge 49, Concord 43: Jiera Shears had 20 points for Hickory Ridge (13-2, 9-1) in an easy win.

No. 15 Berry 56, Olympic 34: Ra’Shika White had 26 points to lead Berry to the easy win. The Cardinals outscored Olympic 17-4 in the second quarter to blow open the game.

Charlotte Christian 41, Cannon 28: Kerstie Phills had 15 points to lead the Knights, who limited Cannon to just 18 points in the first three quarters.

Covenant Day 56, Country Day 45: Erica VanDusen (22 points, seven rebounds) and Sarah Billiard (23 points, 15 rebounds) combined for 45 points in the win. Covenant Day held Country Day to 12 points in the first half.

Parkwood 39, Forest Hills 35: Brittany Autry and Baylee Morton each scored 15 for Parkwood in the win.

Porter Ridge 47, East Meck 42: Kirsten Petrini had 17 points for Porter Ridge, which won the fourth quarter 14-9. Miya Bull had 12 for East Meck.

Sun Valley 47, Marvin Ridge 34: Amanda Cherry had 19 points for Sun Valley, which didn’t allow Marvin Ridge to score more than nine points in a quarter until the fourth. Maddy Griffin had 12 for Marvin.

Kayla Brown, Mallard Creek: 20 points, six assists, two steals in a 63-53 win over North Meck. Teammate Chantel Williams had 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Carrie Eberle, Charlotte Catholic: 13 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, two steals in 63-22 win over Providence.

Ineesha Hankerson, Hopewell: 19 points, 17 rebounds in a 61-38 win over A.L. Brown.

Mahaley Holit, Central Cabarrus: 30 points, seven assists, four steals in her team’s eighth straight win Friday. Central Cabarrus beat Carson 57-37.

Tyriona Houston, Monroe: 19 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, three assists in a 59-39 win over Mount Pleasant.

Destiny Johnson, East Lincoln: 29 points, nine rebounds in 66-58 loss to Maiden.

Deniyah Lutz, Ardrey Kell: made six 3-point shots in 55-50 win over South Meck.

Zaria Wright, Concord First Assembly: 22 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, two steals in a 59-42 win over Gray’s Collegiate (SC). Teammate Jenesai Mohammed added 17 points, six rebounds, three assists.
