Brand RPM: Local sporting good retailer, which supplies gear to many area high schools, donated $13,000 worth of socks and footwear to the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte. Company President David Anderson volunteered to serve meals at the shelter several weeks ago and saw a need.

Be the Match at Hickory Ridge: The school hosts a fourth annual drive to attract bone marrow donors. In the past three years, the school has averaged signing up 24 donors. Hickory Grove girls’ coach Tolonda Rose lost her brother, Todd, to leukemia. Hickory Grove hosts Cox Mill on Tuesday at 6.

Terron Dixon, Queens Grant: Named MVP of the Bulldogs Classic after leading his team to a 61-58 win over Wake Christian on Saturday. Dixon had 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the championship game.

Tuesday’s Top Matchups

No. 12 Butler (13-4, 5-0) at Independence (12-5, 4-1), 7:30 p.m.: One of the state’s best all sports rivalries renews and finds the Patriots trying to catch Butler for first place. Butler has won three straight games. A fourth will put the Bulldogs firmly in control of the Southwestern 4A conference race.

Covenant Day (10-4, 1-0) at Cannon (14-6, 1-1), 7:30 p.m.: Covenant Day and coach Kameron Law have been one of the biggest Mecklenburg County surprises of the season. The Lions, who have won two straight, face a CISAA conference favorite on the road.

Northside Christian girls (12-5, 4-0) at Metrolina Christian (7-7, 4-1), 6 p.m.: The top two girls’ teams in the Metrolina Athletic conference race meet.

No. 9 Weddington (14-2, 3-0) girls at Piedmont (14-2, 3-0), 6 p.m.: Weddington has won five straight games and is tied with Piedmont atop the Southern Carolina league standings.
