Observer Sweet 16 poll: No. 1 Providence Day boys to go for 4th straight CISAA title Friday
Providence Day’s boys’ basketball team, ranked No. 1 in the Observer’s Sweet 16 poll since preseason, is ranked as high as No. 12 in the national polls. The Chargers are 6-2 against teams that are or have been ranked nationally.
Friday, Providence Day (24-3) will try to win its fourth straight outright CISAA championship against rival Charlotte Country Day. Providence Day has won 28 straight conference games.
▪ Providence Day’s girls (21-2) can win a share of the league title Friday against Country Day.
▪ The top six spots remain the same in this week’s poll, though Forest Hills jumps four spots to No. 7. The Yellow Jackets have won nine straight games.
▪ Butler returns to the top 10 after holding off an upset bid from East Mecklenburg on Wednesday. The Bulldogs, on a four-game win streak, are tied atop the Southwestern 4A with Independence.
▪ Independence, which has had several one-week stints in the poll, returns again. The Patriots have won five straight.
