↑Davrion Grier, Myers Park: 6-4 senior averaging 19.8 points, 8.2 rebounds over his past 10 games. In that run, Myers Park is 7-3, and Grier is making 70 percent of his shots. For the season, he averages 16 points, seven rebounds and shooting better than 60 percent.
Friday’s Key Games
Charlotte Country Day at No. 1 Providence Day doubleheader, 6 p.m.: The Charger girls can clinch a share of the CISAA championship, and the Chargers boys can clinch a fourth straight outright title. Country Day has won three of its last four for coach Dwayne Cherry, a former Bucs star in the early ‘90s. Nothing the Bucs would like better than to spoil the party, and Senior Night, for their arch rivals on Sardis Road.
No. 2 North Mecklenburg (18-2, 9-0 MECKA) at Vance (12-9, 4-5), 7:30 p.m.: The Vikings can clinch a share of the league title with a win. Vance is talented and dangerous, and there should be some fireworks from the guard spot where North’s Davion Mintz, a Creighton signee, could match up with Vance’s Cam Hamilton, a scoring machine averaging nearly 21 points per game.
West Mecklenburg (1-18, 1-10 SoMeck) at No. 3 Charlotte Catholic (21-0, 11-0), 7:30 p.m.: The Cougars can clinch the outright league title with a win. West Meck sophomore Dyami Brown averages 16 points and will try to spark one of the season’s biggest upsets.
No. 10 Berry girls (15-3, 9-2 SoMeck) at No. 5 Ardrey Kell (17-4, 11-0), 6 p.m.: The Knights can win and clinch the conference championship as well as extend their win streak to eight games. Berry has won six straight, led by center Ra’Shika White (21 ppg, 13 rpg).
No. 4 Myers Park girls (15-5, 9-0 Southwestern 4A) at Independence (1-18, 0-9), 6 p.m.: Mustangs can clinch the outright league title with a win.
