Lavar Batts Jr., Concord Robinson boys: 14 points shy of breaking the school’s all-time scoring record (1,304). Robinson will host rival Concord for the South Piedmont 3A title Friday.

North Mecklenburg boys: Won first conference title since 2008 with Tuesday’s victory over Hough. The Vikings will play Friday at Mallard Creek.

Providence Day girls: Played Thursday night at Charlotte Christian and already had clinched a 13th straight CISAA title. The Chargers had won 94 straight conference games before Thursday.

Friday’s Key Games

No. 14 Independence at No. 8 Butler, 7:30 p.m.: This is one of the state’s top rivalries in any sport and it burns particularly hot in football and basketball. Friday’s winner will get the Southwestern 4A title. Butler (18-5, 10-1) has won five in a row. Independence (18-5, 10-1) has won seven in a row.

No. 3 Concord at No. 4 Concord Robinson, 7:30 p.m.: Concord (21-2, 16-1) has won 12 straight games and is a win away from the South Piedmont 3A title. Robinson (19-3, 16-1) has won nine straight games and also is one win away from a championship. Concord beat Robinson 101-97 in overtime at home Jan. 7 in front of a standing-room only crowd. Expect another Friday night.
