Pine Lake prep’s Nick Garberina wins NCHSAA 1A/2A boys diving title

RALEIGH – The 2016 NCHSAA 1A/2A Swimming & Diving Championships kicked off at Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh Friday with the diving portion of the competition. Nick Garberina from Pine Lake Prep was the event champion on the boys’ side. He posted a new 1A/2A State Diving Championship record with a total of 456.25. The total eclipsed the previous record set back in 2013 by Lake Norman Charter’s Nathan Lane (380.15)

On the girls side of the competition, Lindsey Ruderman from NC Science & Math posted a 405.45 total besting Emma Yeakley and Nicole Yeakley from Pine Lake Prep.

The swimming portion of the 1A/2A competition will begin Saturday at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. Preliminary heats begin at 8:30 with finals scheduled for 4:45 pm.
