Led by a sterling performance from Alyssa Marsh, Pine Lake Prep won the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A/2A state swim meet in dominating fashion Saturday.
Pine Lake Prep, located in Mooresville, totaled 326 points en route to the title. Carrboro (239) was second. Lake Norman Charter finished fourth, Lincoln Charter fifth and Community School of Davidson was 10th.
Washington (236.5) won the boys event, nearly 20 points better than Lincoln Charter (217.5). Pine Lake Prep was fifth, Lake Norman Charter sixth and Mount Pleasant eighth, among Observer-area teams placing in the top 10.
In the girls event, Marsh won most outstanding swimmer for the third year in a row. Marsh broke her own record from 2014 for the girls’ 100 butterfly of 53:72 with a time of 53:23. She also won the 50 free by more than two seconds over Raleigh Charter’s Lilly Whalen and swam on the winning 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams
