Charlotte Observer HS Basketball Players of the Week


Chazz Surratt, Sage Surratt, East Lincoln: 30 points, five rebounds, five steals for Chazz in a 64-61 win over Lincolnton. Chazz scored 15 of his team’s 20 fourth-quarter points, helping East Lincoln rally from a nine-point deficit. Sage had 17 points, six rebounds and five steals in the same game and became Lincoln County’s all-time leading scorer with 1,923 points.

Lavar Batts, Concord Robinson: In three playoff wins last week, Batts totaled 61 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds. He’s led Robinson to Tuesday’s regional semifinal at Cabarrus Arena against rival Cox Mill.

Wendell Moore, Cox Mill: 30 points, 10 rebounds for Moore in the sectional semifinal win at Kings Mountain Saturday. Moore, a 6-5 freshman, received a scholarship offer from North Carolina recently, and is reportedly the second freshman to ever be offered one by Tar Heels coach Roy Williams.

Remi Roberts, Weddington girls: In three playoff games last week, Roberts had 53 points, 46 rebounds, 12 blocks to lead Weddington back to the regionals for the third straight year. Weddington plays at unbeaten Freedom Tuesday night at 6.

Chanin Scott, Myers Park girls: 23 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, three assists in Saturday’s 50-24 win over Alexander Central.

Ahlana Smith, Vance girls: School-record 46 points on 19-of-35 shooting in an 81-74 four-overtime loss to Alexander Central last week. She also had 10 rebounds and five steals.
