HS Sports Update: Hough win 4A golf regional, HS Heroes

Hough boys golf: Huskies shot a team total of 299 to win the N.C. 4A Western Regional Monday. Porter Ridge was second at 303 and Myers Park (304) was third. All three teams will advance to next week’s N.C. 4A state finals in Pinehurst.

Rainy weather: forced first round of SoMeck 8 4A softball and MECKA baseball and softball tournaments to be pushed back to Tuesday.

Myers Park girls lacrosse: beat Charlotte Catholic 17-14 last week to win the conference championship. Hannah Perkins had six goals.

Charlotte Catholic softball: Cougars are 21-1 and won 20 straight games. Team has two seniors, one junior and nine freshmen.

Pine Lake Prep baseball: Beat Highland Tech 9-2 Friday to win a school-record 14th game.

Jalen McManus, Davion Mintz, North Meck boys basketball: All-Observer boys basketball picks were selected to play in the East-West All-Star game in Greensboro in July.

High School Heroes

Sean Bonner, Charlotte Latin baseball: 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and an RBI in a 4-3 win over Cannon last week.

Morgan Brader, Ardrey Kell softball: 4-for-4 with two RBIs in last week’s 8-7 win over South Meck. Ardrey Kell scored three times in the bottom of the seventh and final inning to win

Jake Crocker, Carmel Christian baseball: 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs in a 5-4 win over Hickory Christian.

Andrew Durden, Charlotte Christian baseball: 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in Friday’s 12-2 win over Charlotte Country Day.

Olivia Ficklin, Northside Christian girls soccer: set school record with eight shutouts in the season, helping Northside to a 11-11-1 overall record in the regular season.

Annabelle Fulghum, Gaston Day girls soccer: three goals in a 6-0 win over Concord First Assembly Monday. Gaston Day (13-4-1) will play either Metrolina Christian or Northside Christian in Thursday’s MAC semifinals at Hickory Grove.

Riley Harrison, Charlotte Country Day girls lacrosse: five goals in a 22-7 win over Durham Academy Friday.

Satchel Jerzembeck, Providence baseball: 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs in Friday’s 6-5 win over Charlotte Catholic.

George Lovitt, Marvin Ridge tennis: won Southern Carolina singles championship last week 6-2, 6-2 over Cuthbertson’s Austin Schepel. Marvin Ridge’s Avanish Madhavaram and John Hatala took the doubles crown.

Christian Park, Providence; Ronnie Uzsenski, Hough golf: both players shot a 72 to tie for second place behind N.C. 4A Western regional champion Matt Sharpstene of Skyland Robinson who shot a 4-under 68. Park was officially named second place finisher after a two-hole playoff.

Peter Pittroff, Charlotte Country Day boys lacosse: six goals in a 15-4 win over rival Charlotte Latin Friday.

Paige Rivas, Charlotte Catholic softball: 3-for-3 with a double in a 10-0 win over Providence Friday.

Dillon Stout, Queens Grant baseball: freshman was 2-for-3 with the game-winning RBI in last week’s 6-5 win over Union Academy. Stout’s game-winner came in the bottom of the seventh and final regulation inning.
