Football spring practice began Monday in North Carolina and new Independence High coach Scott Young wasted no time working with the Patriots.
Young was named Independence football coach earlier this month.

Young resigned last April from West Rowan because of health concerns. He had open heart surgery in 2015 and is on a heart transplant waiting list. Independence athletics director Kelly Lewis said doctors cleared Young to return to coaching.
At West Rowan, Young's teams won nine conference championships, four western regional titles and three consecutive state titles from 2008-10. His record in 17 seasons was 172-54.
