Hough High sophomore soccer star Ashlynn Serepca is the N.C. Gatorade girls soccer player of the year. Serepca is now a finalist for the Gatorade national player of the year award, to be announced later this month.
Serepca, a 5-foot-6 sophomore forward, has 33 goals and 14 assists. She’ll lead Hough (16-4-1) into a third round N.C. 4A playoff Wednesday against nationally ranked Providence. The teams will play at Rocky River High at 7 p.m.
Serepca, a Virginia recruit, is a member of the U.S. Soccer Under-16 Girls National Team player pool and was a 2015 First Team All-State selection. She enters the Providence game with 57 goals and 26 assists in her career.
Academically, Serepca has a 4.45 GPA and has volunteered as a youth soccer coach and as part of multiple community service initiatives through her church youth group.

“Ashlynn Serepca is certainly the real deal,” said Mike Kutcher, head coach of North Mecklenburg High. “She is by far, in my opinion, the best player in the state. She is skilled and very strong on the ball. Simply put, she can just take over games.”
