Mallard Creek ranked No. 1 in Carolina Preps preseason 4A football poll
The Carolina Preps 4A preseason high school football poll is out, and it has a decided Mecklenburg County flavor.
Nine of the 25 teams are from Mecklenburg County. Mallard Creek, the three-time N.C. 4AA champion, is No. 1, followed by Greensboro Dudley and Butler. Charlotte Catholic, the N.C. 4A champ, is No. 8.
Also in the top 25 are Hough (No. 11), South Meck (No. 13), Myers Park (No. 16), Ardrey Kell (No. 23), Vance (No. 24) and North Mecklenburg (No. 25).
▪ In 3A, Concord is No. 7 among top 10 teams. Several other Observer-area teams are ranked: South Point (No. 11); Marvin Ridge (No. 12); Weddington (No. 13); Statesville (No. 14); South Iredell (No. 17), Robinson (No. 18); Cuthbertson (No. 19); Sun Valley (No. 25).
▪ In 2A, reigning 2AA state champ Monroe is No. 2. East Lincoln is No. 8, Lincolnton No. 9.
▪ In 1A, Community School of Davidson is No. 5, Pine Lake Prep No. 16 and Mountain Island Charter No. 17.
