Weddington’s nationally ranked girls soccer team is the 3A state champion in North Carolina.
The Warriors polished off an unbeaten season with a tough 2-1 win over Jacksonville at N.C. State Saturday night.
Weddington (24-0-1) won its 21st straight game since tying N.C. 4A chanp Providence 1-1 on March 11. Olivia Odle had two assists and Remi Roberts scored both goals for the Warriors.
On a night when Weddington dominated possession, Roberts opened the scoring in the 28th minute of the first half off a corner kick from Odle.

Just nine minutes later, Odle set up Roberts with a left-footed kick, which Roberts headed in. Roberts was named Championship MVP.
In the second half, Jacksonville got some great saves from sophomore goalie Megan Serrano and got within one score after Madison Hoopes scored with 28 minutes to play. Jacksonville had some good chances late but could not score. And Weddington eventually became a champion.
