Charlotte-Area High School Basketball Games To Watch
Victory Christian (13-5) at Providence Day (12-4), 7:30 p.m.: At least 10 college recruits will play in this game between private school state championship contenders, including 6-foot-10 Charlotte 49ers recruit Ebuka Izunda of Victory and Providence Day’s Grant Williams. Izunda, a senior, and Williams, a 6-7 junior, are both ranked among the state’s top 10 in their classes. They will likely guard each other. MaxPreps ranks Providence Day No. 7 among all N.C. teams, public or private. Victory is No. 18.
No. 13 Berry (11-3, 3-1 SoMeck 8) at No. 1 Ardrey Kell (13-1, 4-0), 7:30 p.m.: The Knights are No. 1 in the Observer’s Sweet 16 for the first time and are riding a school-record 12-game win streak. The 13-1 start matches the best in school history. Ardrey Kell’s first game in the top spot is tough. Berry beat No. 5 Olympic in a Christmas tournament final and has won seven straight games.
No. 6 Butler (14-2, 4-0 Southwestern 4A) at Porter Ridge (8-5, 3-0), 7:30 p.m.: Butler has won 12 straight and heads into a big conference game on the road. The Bulldogs and Porter Ridge are the only two conference unbeatens, one game ahead of Rocky River (5-10, 3-1) in the loss column.
No. 4 West Charlotte (10-2, 3-1 MECKA 8) at No. 7 Hough (11-3, 4-0): Hough is up by one game on West Charlotte, North Meck (13-1, 3-1) and Robinson (10-3, 3-1) in a tight league race. A win over the Lions would be big.
