Larry Epperly hired as new boys basketball coach at Providence High School

Former East Carolina assistant coach Larry Epperly has been hired as boys basketball coach at Providence High, Panthers athletics director Charles Lansing told the Observer.

At Providence, Epperly will replace Scott Taylor, who left earlier this summer to become head coach at Myers Park High.

Epperly recently resigned as head coach at Halifax (VA) High school, where he also taught physical education. He was 80-44 overall at Halifax with two conference championships and one district titles. His teams were 62-20 over the past three seasons.

In the 2013-14 season, Epperly led the Comets to their first 20-win season since 1974.

At Providence, he faces a rebuilding task. The Panthers are 16-58 over the past three seasons. In the past six seasons, Providence has won just 25 games.
