Former Cannon School golf star Anna Redding has advanced to the match play portion of the 116th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. Redding, a former Charlotte Observer girls golfer of the year, is a sophomore at the University of Virginia.
On Tuesday, she finished tied for 39th place after 36 holes of stroke play. That made her one of 64 players to earn a spot in the match play portion of the competition. Redding shot and even par 71 in the first round of stroke play Monday. Tuesday, she shot a 2-over 73 at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa.
Starting Wednesday, six 18-hole rounds of match play will determine the champion. The first round of match play takes place Wednesday while rounds two and three are contested Thursday. The quarterfinals are Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the 36-hole championship final takes place Sunday.
