Jamarius Burton, a 6-foot-5 junior point guard, will transfer from Berry High to Independence High, his mother, Kim told the Observer. Dee Watts of Dynamic Scoop Hoops broke the story Monday afternoon.

Independence High is Burton’s home school. Berry is a magnet school that can accept students throughout Mecklenburg County.

Burton is ranked No. 16 among North Carolina recruits by Prep Hoops NC. N.C. Preps ranks Burton No. 10 in the state, and Phenom Hoop Report has Burton at No. 18.

Last season, Burton was an all-conference player as a sophomore in the SoMeck 8 and finished second in the player of the year voting. He averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists, leading Berry to a 21-8 record. Burton has college scholarship offers from Hampton, Kent State, La Salle, Penn State and Virginia Commonwealth.
