One of the nation’s top rising freshman high school basketball players will play at Charlotte’s Rocky River High School this season.
Ravens head coach Jermaine Walker told the Observer that 6-foot-2 small forward Jaden Springer will attend Rocky River when school starts later this month. Springer is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect in the class of 2020 by Future 150, a website that tracks youth basketball recruiting.
Springer played varsity basketball as an eighth grader at Lighthouse Christian School in Antioch, Tenn, last season. He averaged a team-best 19 points along with 3.5 rebounds for Lighthouse, which finished the season 20-9.
Rocky River, which was 10-16 last season, returns three starters -- sophomore Raquan Brown (13.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg), senior Anthony Salley (6.1 ppg, 2.8 apg) and senior Tyrek Haywood (5.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg). Junior Marcus Evans (4.4 ppg) is also expected to be a key contributer.
