East Mecklenburg beats Hickory Ridge in boys’ soccer

Christian Thomas and Luis Alanis-Arroyo each scored goals to lead East Mecklenburg’s boys’ soccer team to a 2-1 come-from-behind home victory against Hickory Ridge on Tuesday in a battle of NCHSAA state playoff teams last season.

East Mecklenburg, a 4A school, gave coach Tim Long a victory in his debut.

Luke Trivette scored for 3A Hickory Ridge (0-1-1), which led 1-0 before the Eagles scored both of their goals in the second half.

Charlotte Christian downs Metrolina

Nathan Collins scored four goals and Grant Kiker added two goals and one assist to lead Charlotte Christian to a 7-2 victory at Metrolina Christian.

Amani McLain added a goal and an assist and Casey Odenbeck added two assists for Charlotte Christian, which finished 10-6-2 last season and made it to the first round of the NCISAA playoffs after missing the playoffs the previous season.

Ardrey Kell sweeps Weddington in volleyball

Ardrey Kell’s volleyball team took a season-opening straight-sets victory against visiting Weddington.

Sylvia Duggan had 16 kills, Maddie Sweeney had 28 assists and seven kills, and Ella Duggan had 18 digs to lead Ardrey Kell to the 26-24, 25-16, 25-14 victory.
