NCHSAA on profanity: The N.C. High School Athletic Association is cracking down on profanity in all sports. In football, for example, players using foul language towards an official get a 15-yard penalty. Coaches? Two offenses and they’re tossed. And this includes profanity towards one of their own players.

David Brooks, Mallard Creek track: Brooks is the new boys track coach at Mallard Creek, replacing Donald Littlejohn, who is a football assistant and strength coach.

Cannon girls golf: won the 2016 Gaston Christian Golf Invitational Monday. Sophie Holland (74), Muskan Uppal (79) and Mirabella Calabrase (91) had the winning scores for Cannon at Pine Island Country Club. Cannon faces private school rivals Providence Day and Charlotte Country Day Aug. 30 at River Run Golf Club at 3 p.m.

Weddington soccer: 2015 N.C. 3A state champs beat 2015 N.C. 4A champ South Mecklenburg Saturday 4-1 in the Soccer For A Cure tournament. Michael Davidson had two scores for Weddington (3-0).

Monday’s Fall Sports Heroes

Emily Konchan, Providence volleyball: Had 47 assists in a 3-2 win over Fort Mill Nation Ford. Teammates Ashley Cruise (25 kills), Carly Peck (11 kicks) and Macy Henry (22 digs) also had big games for the Panthers (4-1).

Braden Nash, Charlotte Country Day volleyball: 28 digs, ace in a 3-0 win over Hickory Grove. Country Day -- which got 12 kills, 11 digs from Zoe Weatherington and 12 assists and five aces from Caroline Kosmicki -- improved to 2-7.

Chanel Turner, Nation Ford volleyball: In a 3-2 loss to Providence, Turner had 16 kills, 17 digs, two aces. Teammates Quin Sutphin (15 kills, five digs, four blocks, three aces) and Gwen Spencer (48 assists, 10 digs) also had strong games.

Monday’s Roundup

Providence soccer 2, Hough 1: Providence, ranked No. 12 in the N.C. 4A soccer coaches poll, upset No. 9 Hough Monday behind goals from Luke Sistare and Dallas Baker. Danny DeVries and Sam Wlodyka had the assists. Hough got a goal from AJ Whisnant.

Charlotte Country Day soccer 2, Greensboro Day 1: Country Day, ranked No. 2 in the N.C. 3A private coaches poll, held off No. 7 Greensboro Day in a close match. Richard Gillespie and Stuart Windell scored for the Bucs.

Davidson Day soccer 1, Northside Christian 0: Cole Hansen scored on an assist from Burke Robertson. Davidson Day improved to 3-1-1. Northside is 0-2-1.

Cox Mill Wins BSN Best of Carolinas Volleyball

Cox Mill’s volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in USA Today’s N.C. preseason poll, won the BSN Sports Best of Carolinas Volleyball championship Saturday. Cox Mill won the Gold bracket championship with a 25-19, 25-27, 15-12 win over Marvin Ridge.

Cox Mill finished 6-0 for the weekend.

North Iredell beat Covenant Day 2-0 in the silver bracket finals.
