South Mecklenburg bounces back, earns soccer victory against East Mecklenburg

Reigning NCHSAA 4A soccer champion South Mecklenburg bounced back from Saturday’s 4-1 loss to reigning NCHSAA 3A champion Weddington to ease past visiting East Mecklenburg 3-1 on Wednesday.

Ethan DeSilva had a goal and an assist and Reed Hunnicutt had two assists to lead the Sabres. Collyn Carpenter and Tanner Jordi also scored for South Mecklenburg (3-1).

Christian Thomas scored the lone goal for East Mecklenburg (2-1-1).

Providence scrapes past rival Ardrey Kell in volleyball

After winning the first two sets easily, 25-14, 25-16, Providence hung on to beat South Charlotte rival Ardrey Kell in volleyball.

Ardrey Kell stormed back by winning the third and fourth sets, 25-23 and 27-25, but Providence won the fifth 15-12 to improve to 5-1.

Hough easily wins rivalry in volleyball

Hough won the battle of northern Mecklenburg win a 25-19, 25-19, 25-12 victory against Hopewell.

Lindsey Fisher had nine kills, Erin Cooke added three blocks and four aces and Grace Detwiler had six digs to lead Hough.
