9 high school football games to watch Friday night
Mallard Creek (1-0) at Butler (1-0), 7 p.m. : The area’s top two programs square off, with most people expecting a rematch during the playoffs. Both teams feature solid defenses and explosive offenses. No advance ticket sale has taken place, and tickets will go on sale at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Hopewell (1-0) at Lake Norman (1-0), 7:30 p.m.: Hopewell’s defense held Garinger to minus-14 yards last week, but Lake Norman is coming off a 22-point victory over North Mecklenburg.
East Mecklenburg (1-0) at South Mecklenburg (1-0), 7 p.m.: The host Sabres scored an impressive win over Marvin Ridge but face an Eagles team, led by running back Khamal Howard, that scored 63 last week.
Lincolnton (1-0) at South Point (1-0), 7:30 p.m.: After disposing of defending 3AA state champion Crest, South Point faces one of the state’s top 2A squads.
Ardrey Kell (1-0) at Myers Park (1-0), 7 p.m.: Knights quarterback Luke Hefferly threw for four touchdowns last week, and Myers Park is coming off a lopsided victory over Charlotte Country Day.
Providence Day (0-1) at Catholic (0-1), 7 p.m.: Both teams’ offenses are trying to bounce back from subpar opening-game performances.
Nation Ford (1-0) at South Pointe (1-0), 7:30 p.m.: Two teams coming off victories over iconic S.C. powers – Nation Ford over Irmo, South Pointe over Northwestern.
Hough (1-0) at Mooresville (0-1), 7:30 p.m.: The host Blue Devils try to stop a Huskies attack featuring last week’s standouts, running backs Jarrett Nagy and Rashad Williams.
Independence (0-1) at Scotland County (1-0), 7:30 p.m.: The Patriots, 45-0 losers last week to S.C. power Dutch Fork, now face the Scots and all-state running back Zamir White.
