Northwestern races to big lead, defeats South Mecklenburg 38-25

Northwestern’s Trojans made quick work of their visitors from the north Friday night, scoring 31 unanswered points to open the game against South Mecklenburg en route to winning 38-25 in high school football.

Northwestern maintained a lead of at least 25 until midway through the fourth quarter.

The game became lopsided early when Trojans running back Jerry Howard scored on a 48-yard run, setting up his own 22-yard touchdown run that expanded the lead to 21-0. It was the second of three touchdowns for the senior.

Northwestern got on the board first in the second the half with a 73-yard pass from quarterback Gage Moloney to wide receiver Wally Wilmore. Up 38-6 after that score, the Trojans rested their starters for the rest of the game.

With most of their starters still on the field, South Mecklenburg closed the game with 19 unanswered points.
