College Baseball Roundup: Akron Zips edge Charlotte 49ers with late rally
Trailing by two heading to the ninth inning, Akron scored three runs – two on a game-tying sacrifice fly – to come back for a 5-4 series-clinching victory against Charlotte on Sunday afternoon.
Daulton Mosbarger started the inning with a walk and move to third on Dan Lawrence’s single. Lawrence’s groundball was right to Charlotte shortstop Luke Gibbs, who appeared ready to start a 6-4-3 double play, but the last bounce shot up and over Gibbs’ head to put Zips (4-2) on the corners. Joey Havrilak followed with a hit by pitch, which forced the 49ers to bring in Logan Sherer.
Derek Gallello had two hits for the 49ers (1-2). Trevor Gay took the loss for Charlotte, giving up three runs on three hits with a walk in 1 2/3 innings.

UCLA 12, North Carolina 4: A six-run fifth inning boosted the Bruins (6-1) to a series-clinching win in Orlando, Fla.
Wood Myers and Brian Miller had two hits each for the Tar Heels (4-2).
Coastal Carolina 12, N.C. State 3: Logan Ratledge went 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored for the Wolfpack (3-2) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Zack Hopeck earned the win for the Chanticleers (5-2), giving up a run on two hits and striking out three through 3 1/3 innings.
UNC Wilmington 8, Wake Forest 4: Kennard McDowell hit a grand slam for the host Seahawks (6-0).
Jonathan Pryor had three hits for the Deacons (4-3), including a home run.

Davidson 3, Michigan 2: David Daniels hit a two-run home run as the Wildcats (3-1) earned a sweep in Savannah, Ga.
Michigan fell to 2-5.
Big South
Gardner-Webb 2, Cornell 1: Taylor Fisher scored the winning run after a failed pickoff attempt at first in the ninth inning to lift the host Runnin’ Bulldogs (6-1) to a series sweep.
Cornell fell to 0-3.
Presbyterian 12, Furman 3: Jay Lizanich went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the visiting Blue Hose (6-2).
Sky Overton was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Furman (2-4).

Florida International 7, N.C. Central 5 (13): Jack Schaaf’s two-run home run lifted the Panthers (4-4) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Conrad Kovalcik had two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles (1-4).

South Carolina 6, Northeastern 4: Alex Destino went 3-for-4 with a home run for the host Gamecocks (6-1), who swept the series.
Northeastern is 2-4.
Southern
Ball State 8, Elon 3: Kory Shumate and Quinn Bower each had an RBI for the host Phoenix (4-2).
Ball State (4-2) swept the series.
Wofford 2, UNC Asheville 1: James Plaisted hit a home run for the host Terriers (7-0), who swept the series.
Joe Zayatz threw a complete game for the Bulldogs (2-4), allowing two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts.
Sun Belt
Canisius 10, Appalachian State 3: Dylan Hamel had an RBI triple for the host Mountaineers (2-3).
Canisius (4-3) took the series.
