The Charlotte 49ers saw their losing streak reach seven on Sunday as Florida Atlantic finished off their Conference USA sweep with a 5-1 victory in the series finale.
FAU (18-3, 3-0 C-USA) scored first in the third inning with some small ball, as a Ryan Miller one-out single, stolen base and Stephen Kerr hit put runners at the corners with one out. Brett Lashley’s sacrifice fly brought home Miller with the Owls’ first run.
In the fifth, FAU used some timely, two-out hitting with a Kerr infield single followed by Lashley drawing a walk. Brendon Sanger followed with a double to left-center that scored both Kerr and Lashley to push the lead to 3-0.
Charlotte (4-9, 0-6) got its run in the sixth, as T.J. Nichting started the inning with a double. After a Zach Jarrett groundout moved Nichting to third, a FAU wild pitch allowed Nichting to come home.
