Charlotte Knights offense connects with four homers in rout of Indianapolis Indians, 12-4
Yoan Moncada homered and singled three times, driving home four runs and scoring a couple as the Charlotte Knights topped the Indianapolis Indians 12-4 on Friday.
Cody Asche reached base five times for Charlotte.
Moncada, Nicky Delmonico, Danny Hayes, and Carson Blair each homered in Friday’s rout.
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Indianapolis took the lead when Phil Gosselin hit a two-run single.
Charlotte answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs to take the lead for good. Moncada hit a three-run home run en route to the five-run lead.
The Knights later added two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Delmonico hit a two-run home run, while Blair hit a two-run home run in the eighth.
Matt Purke (2-2) got the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief while Indianapolis starter Clay Holmes (4-3) took the loss in the International League game. Chris Volstad gave up one run in three innings and recorded his first save of the season.
Despite the loss, Indianapolis is 3-1 against Charlotte this season.
