Nicky Delmonico's run leads Charlotte Knights to 6-2 win over Gwinnett Braves
Nicky Delmonico scored on a groundout in the first inning, leading the Charlotte Knights to a 6-2 win over the Gwinnett Braves on Friday.
Delmonico scored on the play to give the Knights a 1-0 lead after he reached base with a single and advanced to third on a double by Cody Asche.
Trailing 3-1, the Braves cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Xavier Avery hit a solo home run.
The Knights later added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth. In the seventh, Yoan Moncada hit an RBI single, while Rymer Liriano hit a two-run home run in the eighth.
Charlotte right-hander Tyler Danish (2-6) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on six hits over seven innings. Opposing starter Kris Medlen (0-2) took the loss in the International League game after giving up four runs and seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.
▪ Also Friday, the team announced that Delmonio would join Moncada on the 2017 International League All-Star Team. The Triple-A All-Star Game takes place July 12 in Tacoma, Washington. Moncada won’t play in the game in Tacoma; he’ll play in the SiriusXM Futures Game on July 9th in Miami.
