The Charlotte Knights had a much-needed day off Wednesday before opening a seven-game homestand.
Mother Nature decided to extend the Knights’ time off by another day.
Charlotte’s International League series opener against the Indianapolis Indians was postponed by heavy showers Thursday at BB&T BallPark.
The Knights (65-60) now will play a doubleheader against the Indians on Friday, with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. The first seven-inning game will begin at 6:05 p.m.; the second will start 30 minutes after the first game ends.
Tickets from Thursday’s game can be exchanged for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any remaining Charlotte home game, based on availability, at the Knights’ ticket office.
BB&T BallPark was hit with two rainstorms Thursday – the first that began about 75 minutes before game time and lasted about 45 minutes, then a second and heavier shower that began 55 minutes later as the field was being prepared. Officials called off the game 80 minutes later.
Right-hander Hector Noesi (1-3, 4.05 ERA), Charlotte’s scheduled starter for Thursday’s game, will get the start in Friday’s opening game of the doubleheader. Right-hander Terance Marin (3-2, 2.34 ERA) will start the second game.
For Indianapolis – the IL West frontunner at 73-52 – right-hander Tyler Glasnow (0-0, 1.29 ERA) will be on the mound in Game 1. For Game 2, the Indians will go with right-hander Vance Worley (1-0, 3.60 ERA).
