Charlotte Knights lose 7-1 to Toledo Mud Hens
Chad Huffman hit a grand slam in a five-run fifth inning, Thad Weber tossed six scoreless innings, and the Toledo Mud Hens beat the Charlotte Knights 7-1 in the finale of their three-game series on Sunday. The win was Toledo’s second of the series and the two teams split their six-game season series 3-3.
Weber (3-1, 0.75) allowed seven hits over his six innings en route to his third win of the season. The Nebraska native was backed by his offense, which scored seven runs on nine hits on the afternoon.
RHP Chris Beck (1-2, 6.49) was saddled with the loss when the Mud Hens loaded the bases in the fifth inning with help from a hit-by-pitch (Jordany Valdespin), a single (Dixon Machado), and a walk (Tyler Collins). After a coaching visit, Beck allowed a bases-loaded walk to James McCann. Huffman changed the game by launching the grand slam.
Charlotte starter Miguel Gonzalez left the game after recording just one out in the first inning. Gonzalez, who was making his third start of the season, was struck by a line drive off the bat of Machado, the second hitter of the game.
The Knights will host a three-game series against the Columbus Clippers on Monday at 7:05 p.m.
